In a non-conference matchup March 20, the Apalachee Wildcats baseball team emerged victorious against the Norcross Blue Devils with a score of 10-6.
The Wildcats then faced off against the Jackson County Panthers in a 6A Area 8 showdown on Monday. With a season record of 9-9, Apalachee further solidified their standing with a 9-7 victory against a 6-11 Panthers team, who had come off a 2-0 league victory against Habersham Central.
Standout performances were seen from Judah Powell, who finished the game with 4.2 innings pitched, three hits, four runs and 12 strikeouts.
JJ Gonzalez scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Nate Valles was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
The Wildcats are back in action on Wednesday night as they are set to play Gainesville, from whom they seek redemption after a 12-4 loss against the Red Elephants in April 2023. The Red Elephants are coming off a 7-6 loss against Shiloh on Friday, dropping their record down to 6-10.
Meanwhile, Apalachee has been performing well recently, winning nine of their last ten games, bumping their record to 10-9 this season.
