In a nail-biting regional championship game Friday night, Winder-Barrow faced a tough challenge against Clarke Central, ultimately coming up just short with a final score of 60-65.
Despite the outcome, Winder-Barrow left their hearts on the court with standout moments of the night belonging to sophomore Jerrin Samuel, who contributed a stellar 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds; junior Jeremiah Shealey, who left his mark with a solid 14 points; senior point guard Tyrin Sims, adding 11 points and dishing out four assists; and senior Jaden Baskin, who displayed a strong two-way performance, securing eight points, eight rebounds and two blocks.
With a remarkable 23-4 overall record this season, the HoopDoggs have consistently proven their dominance on the court, earning a ranking of 39th in the state and eighth in their class.
Winder-Barrow dominated opponents at home, boasting an 11-1 record and had impressive away performances as well, with a record of 10-1. The team’s overall win percentage this season is 0.852, according to MaxPreps.
Throughout the season, Winder-Barrow’s scoring averages have been nothing short of stellar, with a final average of 66.4 points per game. Particularly noteworthy is their explosive third-quarter scoring average of 28 points, which has proven to keep opponents on their toes.
Despite the heartbreak of the close loss to Clarke Central, Winder-Barrow’s journey is far from over. The HoopDoggs remain a force to be reckoned with as they enter the state playoffs as the No. 2 seed.
The team looks ahead to a critical home game on Wednesday, Feb. 21, against Mays High School (15-7).
